Chief executive for the UK and Lloyd’s market at AXA XL, Sean McGovern has taken a key role for the London Market Group (LMG).
McGovern has become the sponsor for the workstream which interacts with parliamentary parties, the UK government and civil service in an effort to better understand the position of the London Market in the UK economy. He moves into the role previously held by SCOR managing director Malcolm Newman.
His arrival was welcomed by LMG chair and CEO of Liberty Specialty Markets Matthew Moore, who noted that relationships have been built with Westminster and Whitehall over the last five years and establishing a clear voice for the London market has been crucial.
“I am delighted that Sean has agreed to take over as sponsor,” he said. “The depth of his experience in the London market gained from his time as general counsel and chief risk officer at Lloyd’s gives him a great perspective on the work that we are doing. Our agenda will focus on future trading arrangements for the market, as well as the support government and regulators can give to market innovations and making London more competitive internationally.”
