The London Market Group (LMG) has announced that the EC3 re/insurance community is hosting its first ever Apprenticeship Discovery programme this week, featuring the participation of 30 London Market firms and 100 volunteers.
This programme spans three days of market activities and is dedicated to promoting specialty insurance as a promising career path to 65 students.
It also builds upon the momentum generated by the LMG’s Futures Academy programme over the summer, which was met with overwhelming demand and exceeded capacity by several hundred percent.
In an emailed news release, Sean McGovern, CEO of AXA XL, UK & Lloyd’s and chair of the London Market Group, expressed his enthusiasm about the industry’s increasing appeal to young talents.
“The fact that 30% of the students who attended in July have reapplied for this October is proof that our market is attractive to young people if you open the door to them,” he said.
McGovern went on to highlight the “power of market collaboration” across the London Market as firms come together to showcase opportunities within the industry.
“Three quarters of the firms participating are taking part for the first time and that offers students even more choice,” he added. “We hope to see many of our students choosing a long successful career within our industry and look forward to planning further events in 2024.”
The London Market currently has more workers over the age of 50 than those under 30. Events like the Apprenticeship Discovery programme aims to shift this age profile and secure a dynamic future for the industry, the LMG’s release said.
