Stewart Smith (pictured) has joined QIC Global in London to serve as business development officer (BDO).
The new role at Qatar Insurance Group’s international specialty insurance and reinsurance subsidiary will see Smith help identify new areas of opportunity across all QIC Global entities. He brings more than four decades of London market experience to the post.
“QIC Global is a multifaceted, rapidly expanding business, and I look forward to working with the various teams to enhance broker experience and speed access to solutions relevant to their clients,” said Smith, whose credentials include time spent at Aon and Willis Re.
Commenting on the appointment, QIC Global and Qatar Re chief executive Michael van der Straaten noted: “Stewart is an extremely well liked and respected industry veteran whose extensive broking experience will be invaluable as we continue to grow.
“The newly created BDO role, with a remit across our entire business, will allow him to use his considerable expertise to connect brokers with the right solutions for their clients. His appointment is indicative of QIC Global’s ongoing development, and he is exactly the person we need to drive further growth.”
Smith made the switch from McGill and Partners.
