The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) has announced the appointment of John Levett (pictured) as head of regulatory affairs, effective immediately. Levett, who has been with the LMA since October 2023, will now oversee the association’s regulatory activities and report to Arabella Ramage, legal director of the LMA, according to a news release.
Levett brings a wealth of experience in the insurance and regulatory sectors to his new role. Before joining the LMA, he served as the senior regulatory lead at RSA Insurance and spent five years at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as a technical specialist in general insurance compliance. While at the LMA, he has contributed to various industry consultations, including with the FCA and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA), and has chaired the LMA’s Environmental and Climate Litigation Committee.
Expressing confidence in Levett’s appointment, Ramage stated: “The LMA is fortunate to have someone of John’s experience and knowledge of the insurance market as we work towards ensuring our members are appropriately represented with respect to regulatory regimes around the globe.”
Levett, in response to his appointment, said, “I am delighted to be taking up this role at such an important time for our industry and our members. Smarter regulation can only help reinforce the London market’s global reputation as the centre of insurance and reinsurance technical expertise.”
The LMA also expressed its appreciation for the contributions of Levett’s predecessor, Steve Morrell, who served in the role for several years. Sheila Cameron, chief executive of the LMA, extended her gratitude to Morrell for his dedication and hard work.
In his new position, Levett will be supported by Alex Sheehan, senior executive of regulatory affairs, who recently joined the LMA.
