The International Underwriting Association (IUA) has welcomed two new members to its secretariat supporting companies in the London reinsurance market. May El Mantawy and Faye Hepburn have joined as legal, underwriting, and claims technicians. In their new roles, the two are expected to contribute to the association’s efforts to maintain an optimal trading environment for its member companies.
Both Mantawy and Hepburn will be part of the IUA’s underwriting and claims department. It oversees London Market committees for a wide range of business classes. In addition, the two new hires will gain experience in the association’s public policy department, supporting legal, compliance and tax groups, as well as monitoring regulatory developments of IUA members.
The two new hires bring a wealth of experience to the association. Mantawy, a graduate of Queen Mary University, London, has prior insurance industry experience from her time at NFU Mutual. Meanwhile, Hepburn, a University College London graduate, worked for an outsourced insurance buyer and claims resolution firm called Mactavish.
“I am pleased to welcome both May and Faye to the IUA. They will greatly enhance our capability to effectively support more than 80 member firms in the London company market,” chief executive of the IUA, Dave Matcham commented. “More than 1,300 individuals now regularly participate in the dozens of market groups that we run and it is important that we provide each of these committees with a dedicated support team.”
Last month, the association hired Matthew Dumbrell as chairperson of the IUA’s legal and regulatory committee, and Dominic How, general counsel at HSB Engineering Insurance, and Faye Ingham, the compliance officer of reinsurance – UK branch at Swiss Re, as deputy chairs to the committee.
The IUA is the representative body for companies in London providing international and wholesale insurance and reinsurance coverage. It was created through the merger of the London International Insurance and Reinsurance Market Association (LIRMA) and the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU).
