Property and specialty reinsurer IQUW has named Dan Warburg as its new London head of reinsurance.
Based in London, Warburg will be responsible for leading and building the specialty and property reinsurance book in the city, with the help of property lead underwriters Ciaran Waters and Sarah Smith.
He will report to Steven Tebbutt, active underwriter of IQUW Syndicate and Stephen Young, group head of IQUW Reinsurance.
“It’s an exciting time at IQUW as we continue to build our reinsurance division as part of our overall IQUW Group growth strategy, and I’m delighted that we have someone of Dan’s calibre in this position,” Young said. “Dan is a respected reinsurance underwriter within the Lloyd’s community and he will be a tremendous asset to IQUW as we construct our global reinsurance portfolio and intelligently use insights to improve our decision making.”
Prior to joining IQUW, Warburg had accumulated 20 years of experience as a reinsurance underwriter at Cathedral Underwriting and Lancashire Syndicate 2010. He also served as an aviation member of the Lloyd’s Market Association in 2019 before moving on to chair the committee in June 2020.
“I’m thrilled to be joining IQUW with the business in high growth mode,” Warburg said. “I look forward to working with the team to manage our reinsurance property book from London as well as using my experience to further develop IQUW’s specialty business.”
Warburg’s entrance follows after the recent appointment of Rene Lamer as head of reinsurance in Bermuda, who has been a part of the team since November 2021. The move allows the company to write business on IQUW Syndicate 1865 paper in Bermuda through a new coverholder agreement, expanding its business remit in the island territory.
