To further develop its reinsurance team in Bermuda, IQUW has made a couple of key appointments.
The property and specialty reinsurer has appointed Helen Thornton (pictured) as its new chief financial officer for IQUW Re Bermuda Limited and group head of finance. Thornton joins IQUW from Nephila Capital where she had held roles such as co-head of reinsurance and chief operations officer since 2011.
In addition, IQUW has also hired Vanessa O’Flynn as office manager and executive assistant. O’Flynn was previously the chief administrative officer at Third Point Re from inception until January 2020. She also served several roles at Guy Carpenter, Allied World, and Renaissance Re.
IQUW noted that these appointments come after it recently hired Rene Lamar to serve as managing director for underwriting and operations in Bermuda, and Stephen Young as head of reinsurance and CEO of IQUW’s Bermuda platform.
“I am delighted to join IQUW to continue the build out its Bermuda operation alongside Rene, Stephen and Vanessa,” said Thornton. “IQUW has already begun to deliver on it’s potential to become a successful reinsurance firm with a clear growth vision. I’m thrilled to be joining the team.”
“As we build out IQUW’s reinsurance platform, we will continue to recruit a high-quality team with broad skills that can be leveraged across the group,” commented Stephen Young.
In March, IQUW appointed Steven Tebbutt as active underwriter for Syndicate 1856. Tebbutt succeeded interim active underwriter David Message, who had served in that role since IQUW’s acquisition of Arcus 1856 in 2020. IQUW also revealed that Message would be transitioned into being its lead energy lead underwriter.
