The International Underwriting Association of London (IUA) has elected Patrick Tiernan’s replacement as chair of the IUA.

As previously revealed, Tiernan was leaving Aviva to join Lloyd’s of London. Taking over his IUA post is Zurich UK commercial insurance head Robert Kuchinski, who has been an IUA board member since June 2019.

Previously, the Zurich executive was one of two IUA deputy chairmen alongside Liberty Specialty Markets’ Phil Hobbs, who will be continuing in the role as the trade body’s single deputy chair.

“I am delighted to be leading the IUA at an exciting time for our sector and look forward to overseeing the delivery of many new services outlined in the association’s recently published 2021 business plan,” noted Kuchinski.

“The IUA is an important industry advocate and membership continues to grow. The 65 companies it represents reflect an unrivalled concentration of insurance capital and expertise in London.”

Commenting on the succession, IUA chief executive Dave Matcham described Kuchinski as “already an influential and respected” board member who is ideally placed to take on the chairmanship. “He will be an effective leader for the London company market, and I look forward to working with him,” stated the CEO.

Meanwhile, Matcham also had nothing but nice words for IUA’s former chair.

“It is far from unprecedented to see IUA board members move on to very senior and responsible positions elsewhere within our industry, and I would like to wish Patrick Tiernan well as he prepares for his new job at Lloyd’s,” he said.
