Sompo International, a leading provider of property and casualty (re)insurance through its operating subsidiaries, has announced the appointment of Nicholas Walsh to its board of directors.
“We are very pleased to welcome Nicholas Walsh to the board,” said James Shea, executive chairman of the board of directors and CEO of Sompo International. “Nic is a respected leader with over 50 years’ experience in insurance. His expertise and guidance will be invaluable to Sompo International as we expand and grow our business while leading with our core values and putting our customers and trading partners at the centre of everything we do.”
Walsh spent the majority of his storied career with AIG, holding various leadership positions throughout his 42-year tenure. Prior to his retirement in 2014, he was the vice chairman of AIG Property and Casualty. He also served as executive vice president of AIG, CEO of AIG’s international general insurance business, and chair of several AIG regional companies.
Outside of his work with AIG, Walsh has long been part of various internal boards and international societies. In 2020, he was appointed independent director of McGill and Partners and McGill Global Solutions. Between 2014 and 2019, he was an independent director of the London-based insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson, where he was a director of its US subsidiaries and a member of the remuneration, compensation and nomination committees, and the audit and risk committees.
“It is a very exciting time for Sompo International,” said Walsh. “Its strength, dynamic and market presence demonstrate that the company is thriving. I’m honoured to be part of Sompo International’s ongoing expansion and sustainable growth story.”
