Seven firms focused on insurance law have launched Global Insurance Law Connect.
Founder member firms are the UK’s BLM, Italy’s Batini Traverso Grasso & Associati, France’s Byrd & Associates, and the United States’ Foran Glennon Palandech Ponzi & Rudloff PC.
Other members are Spain’s Blanco & Asociados, India’s Khaitan Legal Associates, and Brazil’s Santos Bevilaqua Advogados.
Currently the alliance has 14 special legal and risk interest groups sharing expertise across product liability, D&O (directors and officers), marine, energy, and cyber. Other groups will be added in the next six months.
Global Insurance Law Connect offers an extensive network of local lawyers with specialised knowledge, allowing each member firm to efficiently and effectively serve clients’ global needs.
Mike Brown, chairperson of the alliance, said they were inspired by client demand. “With a highly competitive rating environment, every underwriter is looking for income growth in new markets or from new products – extending their businesses into the unknown,” he commented.
The insurance industry, according to Brown, is asking for specialist advice across multiple markets and delivered in a collaborative manner.
“Many of us share common clients and have worked jointly with other member firms on matters that obtained successful results. So, formalising our relationships and our alliance to put in place the broadest network, stringent due diligence, and rigorous quality control was a natural next step,” he explained.
The alliance aims to provide re/insurers, brokers, and policyholders network access and the benefits of reduced time and cost due to the firms’ connectivity and collaboration.
