QBE, mea platform, Argenta, and the UK P&I Club have each announced leadership changes as they position for growth and operational development across key markets.

QBE has appointed Maths Stanser (pictured above) as head of distribution for European markets. In this role, Stanser will oversee broker engagement, support the development of QBE’s distribution strategy, and expand its broker network across France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Spain.

He will continue to be based in Stockholm and will report to Andy Besant, chief customer officer for QBE European Operations. Stanser will also join the European management committee led by Beatriz Valenti, director of insurance for Europe, to contribute to QBE’s ongoing growth strategy across the continent.

Stanser has worked in the insurance industry for 30 years, including the past seven as QBE Nordics’ general manager. His responsibilities have included leading QBE’s operations in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway.

QBE confirmed that Stanser will retain his position as general manager for the Swedish and Danish branches while the company recruits a new general manager for the Nordics region.

Stanser began his career in 1995 as a financial lines underwriter for AIG Europe and later held senior roles at Aon, including chief commercial officer and head of financial institutions, before joining QBE in 2018.

mea’s new CEO

mea platform has named Max Richter as chief executive officer for the UK and EMEA region. Richter brings more than 25 years of experience working at the intersection of insurance and technology-led transformation.

Most recently, he served as managing director and member of Accenture’s global insurance team, where he worked with Accenture’s largest property and casualty clients and led the firm’s AI-enabled underwriting initiatives.

Richter’s background includes experience in software engineering and leadership roles at Detica NetReveal, where he was responsible for driving growth across Europe for its fraud detection software-as-a-service platform.

According to mea platform, Richter’s experience spans strategic initiatives, innovation, and growth delivery across multiple areas of the property and casualty market.

ASML deputy chair

Argenta has announced the appointment of Paul Wilson as deputy chair of Argenta Syndicate Management Ltd (ASML) and as a non-executive director of Argenta Holdings Ltd (AHL), pending regulatory approval.

Wilson brings more than 35 years of experience in financial and professional services, including leadership roles at Bain & Company, where he led the firm’s financial services practice and contributed to the restructuring of the Lloyd’s market.

His prior non-executive experience includes board roles at AXA XL UK, AXA XL Dublin, RJ Kiln, Brewin Dolphin, and Unigestion. Wilson also serves as chair of the Board of Trustees for Action Against Hunger, an international charity operating in 55 countries.

Wilson will succeed John Whiter as chair of ASML on July 1, 2025, subject to regulatory approval. Whiter, who is stepping down after 16 years, oversaw the expansion of ASML’s underwriting capabilities, with Syndicate 2121 and SPA 6134 now managing £800 million and £133 million in underwriting capacity, respectively. Whiter also played a key role in Argenta’s 2017 acquisition by Hannover Re.

UK P&I Club leadership changes

The UK P&I Club has announced leadership changes in its Athens and London offices as part of its strategic growth and operational plans. Sean Geraghty, who has served as regional director for Greece for two and a half years, will return to the London office in April.

In his new role as claims operations director, Geraghty will lead the development of the Club’s claims initiatives globally, working closely with the senior leadership team to enhance processes and service delivery.

Philip Clacy will take over as regional director for Greece, returning to the Piraeus office after 15 years in London. Clacy will continue to manage the Club’s global services while focusing on supporting Greek-based members.

The UK P&I Club, which has maintained a presence in Greece since 1979, opened its fully autonomous office in Piraeus in 1996 and now operates with a local team of 20. The Club has stated that maintaining close ties with the Greek shipping community remains a long-term priority.
