AXA’s group deputy chief executive Frédéric de Courtois (pictured) has become president of Insurance Europe.
The election of Andreas Brandstetter’s successor was met with unanimous approval from the Brussels-based federation of European insurance and reinsurance associations, securing de Courtois’ leadership for the next three years.
In his address at the 14th International Conference in Helsinki, de Courtois took the opportunity to express his gratitude, telling attendees: “I was honoured to be elected president of Insurance Europe. To all our members: thank you for giving me your trust.
“I am building on the solid foundations set by my predecessor, Andreas, our director-general, Michaela, the Insurance Europe team, and our members. I would like to thank them all for this.”
The insurance industry veteran went on to emphasize his commitment to enhancing Europe’s competitiveness and development.
He stated: “My main priority will be to contribute to building a better and more competitive Europe. The insurance industry is part of the solution and is keen to engage constructively and work with all stakeholders to develop and co-build the right solutions.”
During his speech, de Courtois also asserted: “We need as an industry to be courageous, to be innovative, to engage early enough with all stakeholders including the civil society.”
The new Insurance Europe president has more than three decades of industry experience, including his roles as general manager and international CEO at Generali, chief financial officer and deputy chief executive of AXA Japan, and CEO of AXA Italy, Greece, and Serbia.
An actuary from France, de Courtois held a variety of positions at AXA from 1997 to 2016 before returning in 2021 to serve in his current capacity as group deputy CEO in charge of finance, operations, strategy, risk, and underwriting.
