Bern-based insurance company Visana has lost chief executive Urs Roth to suicide.

A statement released by the Swiss insurer revealed that Roth, who became chair of the management board in 2012 after joining the firm in 1995, took his own life on November 12. No further details on the passing were provided.

Meanwhile Visana, which has expressed its condolences, said deputy CEO Valeria Trachsel will be in charge in the interim.

Born in 1960, Roth died less than two and a half years after the suicide of another insurance boss in Switzerland. Former chief executive Martin Senn took his life in May 2016, six months after leaving Zurich Insurance.
