Nick Prettejohn – former chief executive of Lloyd’s of London and Prudential UK & Europe – has been appointed as non-executive director and chairman designate of Trinity Mirror Plc effective February 02, 2018, following a unanimous recommendation by the nomination committee.

Aside from joining the publishing giant’s board, Prettejohn will also serve on the remuneration and nomination committees, before assuming the role of nomination committee chair starting May 03. From the chairman designate post, he is also slated to move to the position of chairman on the same date, replacing David Grigson at the end of the company’s next annual general meeting.

“I am absolutely delighted that Trinity Mirror has been able to attract someone of Nick’s calibre to be its next chairman,” said Grigson, who is retiring as a director and chairman after joining the board in 2012. “I will depart in May knowing that the board and the company are in good hands.”

Prettejohn, who is also the chairman of Scottish Widows, has been a non-executive director on the Lloyds Banking Group Plc board since 2014. Other positions he has held include Brit Insurance chairman, Prudential Regulation Authority non-executive director, Lloyd’s Council member, and Legal and General Plc non-executive director.

“Trinity Mirror has a powerful portfolio of news brands, a heritage of strong journalism and information provision, and a major and growing digital presence,” he commented. “I’m looking forward to working with the management team and board to realise further the potential of those assets.”
