A former wrestler gets to demonstrate the “entertainment” part of “sports entertainment” in an insurer’s new TV advertisement.
Hulk Hogan appears as himself in Dutch insurance company Centraal Beheer’s commercial, appropriately titled “Hulk”. In the skit, the 63-year-old Hogan stops a thief from running away with a stolen purse, and begins to put the criminal through a series of iconic wrestling attacks.
Although the thief appears to be taking Hogan’s piledriver, leg drop, and punches, it is shown that the wrestling legend was – pun intended – pulling his punches all along, with every “attack” faked to excite the crowd of onlookers. As the commercial closes, the thief manages to walk away unscathed from the encounter, as Hogan thanks his fans for watching, and the words “Even Apeldoorn Bellen” (“Just call the insurance company”) appear onscreen.
According to a company release, the commercial was created by advertising agency DDB and Tribal. It was shot on location, at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach in Florida.
