Markerstudy Group has completed its acquisition of Hughes Insurance, bringing the well-established Northern Ireland-based insurance provider and its 85,000 customers into Markerstudy’s distribution division.
With expertise spanning motor, home, van, travel, and business insurance, Hughes adds to the growing portfolio of Markerstudy Distribution. The deal enhances Markerstudy’s commitment to Northern Ireland, where Hughes has built a robust reputation over its nearly 50-year history.
Ian Donaldson, the former chief executive of Ardonagh Retail, leads Markerstudy Distribution as CEO. He joined the business earlier this year when Atlanta Insurance was acquired by Markerstudy.
“We’re pleased to be welcoming Hughes Insurance into Markerstudy Distribution,” said Kevin Spencer, chief executive of Markerstudy Group.
“The two businesses have worked together for many years, and we’re looking forward to building on their excellent reputation in the Northern Ireland market. Collectively, we’re committed to continuing to put our customers first and delivering growth and innovation across the portfolio.”
Markerstudy Distribution includes brands such as Swinton, Carole Nash, and Marmalade, offering a wide array of personal and commercial insurance solutions, from motor and home to SME and pet insurance.
Also part of the distribution arm is brokerage Clegg Gifford, which broadens Markerstudy’s reach into the Lloyd’s market.
The wider Markerstudy Group, meanwhile, is the name behind managing general agent Markerstudy Insurance Services as well as complementary businesses Auto Windscreens, VisionTrack, and Vision Vehicle Solutions.
