Remember that ‘bedbound’ claimant who was caught bungee jumping on national TV? Well, here’s another ‘caught on camera’ case – this time in Ireland, involving a man who claimed he couldn’t gain employment because of back pain following a supposed accident in 2014, but apparently could dance and bend over with ease while stripping on a regular basis.

Now not only will 32-year-old student Nauris Zeps not get the insurance payout he wanted, but he has to pay Liberty Insurance legal costs. Dublin Circuit Court’s Judge Mary O’Malley Costello was shown video footage of Zeps’ strip dancing, which didn’t seem to be causing him pain.

“He told the court he has ongoing difficulties and told doctors recently that he has to stop going to the gym and he hasn’t been running for the same period,” the Irish Independent quoted the judge as saying.

Judge O’Malley Costello continued: “In evidence it became clear from the beginning he conducted his business of being a dancer and did it monthly, if not more, and that dancing as I saw from the video, while not extremely physical, certainly required a good deal of effort, involving stretching, extension of the back, and a clear ability to move and bend down very easily.”

According to the report, Zeps admitted not missing a dance session when photos, as well as the video, were presented in court.

Meanwhile Aviva Ireland fraud manager Rob Smyth said, as quoted by The Times: “Historically, insurance companies didn’t fight bogus cases, which made it easy for those involved to make a lot of money. If you take these people on, challenge their evidence in court and allow judges to see what’s happening, it’s no longer easy for them.”
