Specialist global insurer
Hiscox has snapped up Paraline active underwriter Megan McConnell to be in charge of its UK-based reinsurance underwriting team.
Appointed as director of underwriting for Hiscox Re in London, McConnell will be relocating from Colorado where she was active underwriter of Paraline Syndicate 4242, and Special Purpose Arrangement 6123. At Hiscox Re, the key hire will serve as joint active underwriter for Syndicate 33 and as active underwriter for Syndicate 6104.
“Megan is an exciting addition to our reinsurance team,” said Hiscox Re and ILS (Insurance Linked Strategies) chief executive Mike Krefta. “Her experience of running a Syndicate was desirable to us and we will benefit from the fresh thinking she will bring.”
McConnell, who is also joining the Hiscox Syndicates Limited Board, has managed portfolios from a pricing, underwriting, operations, marketing, and distribution perspective. She will help the London reinsurance business in penetrating the deregulating US flood market, as well as drive further growth in specialty lines such as terrorism and cyber.
Hiscox Re, the reinsurance operation of the Hiscox Group, is backed by a $200mn line size and also operates in Bermuda and Paris. In October it rolled out a new US personal lines flood product aimed at helping address gaps in flood insurance.
