Specialist insurer
Hiscox has appointed a new CEO to its London Market business, the firm revealed this morning.
Kate Markham will take on the newly created role, which the insurer says will complement its strong underwriting capabilities.
Most recently managing director of Hiscox’s direct to consumer operations in the UK, Markham has been with the company for five years. During that period, she has led more than 200 people across underwriting, sales, marketing, and operations, and helped drive growth of 30%. Markham built the UK direct business into a “market leading operation with a strong brand and a culture of creating customers for life,” Hiscox said.
In her new role as CEO, Markham will work closely with Paul Lawrence, who remains CUO of Hiscox London Market and joint active underwriter for Syndicate 33. The pair will also be on the Hiscox Ltd executive committee.
Hiscox chief executive Bronek Masojada described Markham as having “proven her ability to build profitable businesses in highly competitive markets,” both at Hiscox and in a previous role for Vodafone.
“She will be a modernising force for our operations and culture, and relentless in making the most of the changing market and the opportunity it presents,” he went on to say. “The London Market will benefit from these skills now more than ever.”
Prior to Hiscox, Markham was head of international enterprise at telecoms firm Vodafone, where she identified a significant new opportunity to serve multinational clients globally, and built an effective operation to support the venture. She began her career at Anderson Consulting, now
Accenture.
