HIVE Underwriters Limited has announced the appointment of Henning Haagen (pictured above) as chief development officer and board member, effective January 1, 2025.

Haagen brings extensive experience from his tenure at Allianz Commercial, where he held global executive leadership roles focusing on commercial insurance and specialty lines.

In his new position, Haagen will work with chief executive officer Bruce Carman and the executive team to expand HIVE’s specialty underwriting portfolio and enhance its position in the market. HIVE says that the appointment aligns with the company’s strategy to build on its existing expertise in aviation insurance and develop new opportunities in specialty lines.

Carman described the appointment as an important step for the company, noting Haagen’s senior-level experience.

“Henning’s wealth of expertise and expansive network will undoubtedly bring new perspectives and additional firepower to our business. We are excited to have him on board as we continue to grow and innovate in specialty lines,” he said.

As the incoming chief development officer, Haagen highlighted his commitment to HIVE’s strategy of expanding its specialty portfolio.

“HIVE is a very high calibre organisation with an enviable panel of strong carrier support and proven track record,” Haagen said. “They have built an outstanding reputation for leveraging data and analytics to deliver tailored solutions and insights that support agile, profitable underwriting. Our aim is to attract best in class talent, expand product offerings with local footprint and scale the business, creating a strong specialty player in the fast-growing MGA market."

Founded in 2017, HIVE Underwriters operates as a Lloyd’s Coverholder and managing general agent (MGA), specialising in aviation insurance. The firm underwrites on behalf of a panel of Lloyd’s syndicates and insurance companies, all of which maintain strong financial ratings (AA- and A+ S&P).

HIVE will celebrate its eighth year of operations in 2025, which the company marks a continuation of its focus on delivering specialised coverage solutions with the backing of first-class carrier support.
