Ardonagh Netherlands, the Dutch subsidiary of The Ardonagh Group, has named Wim Hekstra as its new chief executive officer, with his appointment taking effect on June 1.

Hekstra brings to the role a wealth of experience in the financial services and insurance sectors. According to a news release, Hekstra most recently served as a senior adviser at Bain & Company, where he led strategic and merger and acquisition (M&A) initiatives across the financial industry. His previous roles include serving on the supervisory board of ASN Impact Investors and holding leadership positions at Aegon Netherlands, Sun Life Financial, and ING’s insurance operations in Hong Kong.

In his new role, Hekstra will spearhead the continued regional expansion of Ardonagh Europe, focusing on growth within the corporate, SME, and high-net-worth insurance markets. His appointment follows a period of strategic acquisitions by Ardonagh in the Netherlands aimed at enhancing its presence and offerings in continental Europe.

“I am excited to join Ardonagh Netherlands at such a pivotal time,” said Hekstra. “Within our platform we have brands renowned for quality and deep expertise in their chosen markets. Together with the local team and our counterparts across Ardonagh’s global network, I look forward to driving the continued success of our business through a culture of collaboration and excellence.”

Hekstra succeeds Sunny Léons, who will continue to support Ardonagh’s operations in the Netherlands. Léons joined the group in 2022, when Ardonagh acquired Léons Group, marking its first expansion into continental Europe. Under the leadership of Léons, Ardonagh Netherlands executed a series of acquisitions, including Klap Verzekeringsmakelaar, established in 1854; Classicus, a broker for high-net-worth clients; and Private Insurance Assuradeuren B.V. (PIA) along with Private Insurance Nederland B.V. (PIN), both specialists in products for affluent individuals.

As of 2025, the combined businesses employ 180 staff and manage €147 million in annual gross written premium.

“We are delighted to have Wim on board,” said Conor Brennan, CEO of Ardonagh Europe. “His appointment marks the next stage of opportunity and growth for our Netherlands business, as we strive to unlock the value of strong, independent broking. I would also like to take the time to thank Sunny for his outstanding leadership in positioning this important European market for long-term success.”

Hekstra will lead the Ardonagh Netherlands executive team, which includes Valentina Visser (chief operating officer), Robert de Vos (chief financial officer), Dov Rychter (managing director, Léons), Fred Willemze (managing director, Klap), and Bart-Jan Kastrop (managing director, Classicus and PIA).
