HDI Global has restructured the management of its HDI Enablers division, appointing Eric Joly-Pottuz (pictured above) as the new head of the Paris-based unit, which specialises in Alternative Risk Transfer (ART).

Joly-Pottuz succeeds Etienne de Varax, who has led the unit since its establishment in August 2022 and will retire at the end of 2024. Under de Varax’s leadership the company noted that HDI Enablers has become a key centre for innovative risk financing solutions in Europe.

”With HDI Enablers, we are complementing the HDI Global alternative risk transfer offering to corporations and providing our customers with access to innovative risk solutions that are perfectly tailored to their individual needs,” Joly-Pottuz said. “Our goal is to help companies optimally manage their risks and strengthen their competitiveness.”

The unit operates out of France and collaborates with local HDI Global teams to deliver its services in multiple markets. Joly-Pottuz indicated that while Europe remains the core market, the company is also exploring opportunities in other regions such as the US and Asia.

“Malaysia, for example, is currently becoming a big domicile for captives. We are in contact with our connections there to determine whether or not there's an opportunity for us to go further,” he said.

Joly-Pottuz brings significant experience to the role, having started his career at AXA Group before taking on various management positions at HDI Global since 2016. As the new head of HDI Enablers, he will focus on advancing innovative risk solutions in the ART sector.

Dr Thomas Kuhnt, a member of HDI Global SE’s executive board, stressed the strategic importance of HDI Enablers.

“In a world where risks are becoming increasingly complex, we find innovative ways to provide our customers with the best possible support, including ways that go beyond traditional insurance solutions. With Eric Joly-Pottuz, we have an experienced expert at the helm of HDI Enablers who will take our ART offering to a new level,” he said.

Kuhnt also thanked de Varax for his contributions in establishing HDI Enablers as a leading player in the European alternative risk transfer market, noting that de Varax will remain with the company as senior advisor until his retirement at the end of 2024.
