Hampden Group has announced that the current CEO of Hampden Agencies, Neil Smith, will be retiring from his role at the end of January 2023.
Smith retires from the leadership position after 14 years of service leading one of the largest members’ agency at Lloyd’s. It was under his leadership that the business more than doubled its capacity.
To succeed Smith, Hampden has named Alistair Wood as the new CEO of Hampden Agencies, subject to regulatory approval. Wood, who is currently a director of Hampden Agencies and the head of research, has successfully led the company’s Lloyd’s syndicate research team – which, according to a company release, is “an important part of Hampden’s overall delivery of market-outperforming advice to clients.”
”Neil’s contribution both to the Hampden Agencies business and to private capital in the Lloyd’s market has been hugely important and we wish him well in his retirement,” said Hampden Agencies chair Sarah Wilton. “Alistair represents the next generation of leadership and I wholeheartedly endorse this appointment.”
“I have always been impressed with Neil’s dedication and eye for detail in his management of Hampden Agencies,” added Hampden Agencies chairman designate Lord Strathclyde. “I am equally delighted that someone with the depth of knowledge and thought that Alistair possesses will be taking on the CEO role.”
In addition to Wood’s appointment as CEO, Hampden also announced that Lord Strathclyde will take on the role of chairman of Hampden Agencies at the end of 2022.
Currently, Hampden represents and advises more than 1,000 clients on the underwriting affairs at Lloyd’s, with more than £2 billion of advised private capacity in 2022.
