The General Terms of Agreement (GTA) of the credit hire industry has named Stewart McCulloch (pictured above) as its new independent chair, announced jointly by the Credit Hire Organisation (CHO) and subscribing motor insurers within the GTA framework.
Currently serving as the independent secretary of the GTA Technical Committee, McCulloch will take on his new responsibilities starting from December 1, 2023.
Bringing with him a wealth of experience, McCulloch, a solicitor, has spent 25 years as a partner in a significant law firm in the North West of England, focusing predominantly on claims work, particularly within the realm of personal injury. Throughout his tenure, he actively facilitated the establishment of settlement protocols aimed at averting costly litigation for insurers and claimant organisations.
McCulloch is renowned for using cutting-edge technology to support negotiation and dispute resolution. His recent endeavours include managing his own outsourcing company and serving as a director and head of compliance for a large national law firm.
The GTA stands as a collective set of industry-endorsed principles, rules, and guidelines voluntarily agreed upon by insurers and credit hire companies to oversee replacement vehicle motor claims. Originating in 1999, the agreement has been the cornerstone guiding the UK credit hire sector.
“We’re pleased that someone with Stewart’s deep understanding of the credit hire industry will be overseeing the GTA through the latest series of revisions. He has the full support of insurers and credit hire companies (CHCs) who subscribe to the GTA and will play an integral role in the next stage of our negotiations,” CHO chair and CEO Anthony Hughes and Insurer Technical Committee chair James Driscoll said in a joint statement.
