Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) has named Paolo Silvestri (pictured above) as the new head of aviation, effective from October 1.
In addition to his new role, Silvestri will continue serving as the head of aviation for the underwriting function at GC&C Italy on an interim basis. His predecessor, Massimo Orsini, will remain with the company in his role as head of cyber insurance for GC&C.
Silvestri brings over two decades of experience within Generali, having held several positions across the company. His expertise spans technical and commercial areas of the aviation insurance sector.
He is expected to support the growth of the GC&C Aviation portfolio and ensure underwriting standards that aim to drive business expansion and deliver value for clients and brokers.
Christian Kanu, CEO of Global Corporate & Commercial, commented on the appointment, saying that Silvestri is expected to play a key role in advancing the company's aviation business.
“I am pleased to welcome Paolo to our team as I am sure he will be pivotal in driving and shaping our aviation portfolio, as well as understanding the insurance needs of our clients. I am confident that his appointment will contribute to the execution of our strategic vision for growth and innovation in the aviation sector,” Kanu said.
Silvestri is also a representative of both the Italian Associazione Nazionale Imprese Assicuratrici (ANIA) and the International Union of Aerospace Insurers (IUAI). He holds a law degree from the Università degli Studi di Parma.
In August, Generali Group reported continued growth in its operating results for the first half of 2024, supported by a diversified business profile.
Gross written premiums rose to €50.1 billion, marking a 20.4% increase, driven by notable growth in both the life and property & casualty (P&C) segments. Life net inflows exceeded €5.1 billion, with strong performance in protection and unit-linked products, which the group says aligns with its strategic focus and the success of commercial initiatives implemented since 2023.
