Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C), international insurer Generali Group’s property-casualty unit, has tapped into Tokio Marine for its new CEO.
Former Tokio Marine Europe CEO, Christian Kanu, takes on the role of Generali GC&C CEO, effective January 30, 2023.
Kanu (pictured) has worked in the insurance industry for over 20 years at the highest international level, holding senior management positions in multiple countries and markets. He has a successful track record of building and managing high-performing insurance operations, smart distribution networks, and profitable underwriting portfolios. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration from Cranfield School of Management.
As the new CEO of Generali GC&C, Kanu will oversee the implementation of the property-casualty unit’s business across all markets in which it operates, aligned with the group’s strategic plan “Lifetime Partner 24: Driving Growth.”
Jean-Laurent Granier, country manager France, Europ Assistance & Global Business Lines, said Kanu’s cross-cultural and multinational background perfectly fits General GC&C’s strong international nature.
“I am very happy to welcome Christian Kanu, a leader with sound and extensive international experience in the insurance sector,” Granier said. “I am sure that under his leadership, GC&C will continue to have an even more relevant role in the corporate market.”
Granier thanked outgoing Generali GC&C CEO Manlio Lostuzzi – who will maintain his role until January 29 – for his work and excellent performance in managing the business for many years, adding: “I wish him every success in the next chapter of his career in Generali.”
Kanu’s entrance to Generali GC&C follows the appointment of Benedetta Marcato as global head of financial lines underwriting within the insurance department led by Hayden Seach, global head of insurance at Generali GC&C.
