The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) has announced that its new president will be Pete Allchorne (pictured), a DAC Beachcroft partner, following his election during the organisation’s annual general meeting.
“Pete is an experienced insurance lawyer who has been a member of the FOIL Executive Committee for a long time. He is the ideal candidate to lead the organisation into 2024,” said Laurence Besemer, FOIL’s CEO.
Allchorne received his Bachelor of Arts in Politics degree at the University of Portsmouth and his post-graduate diploma in Law at the University of the West of England, according to his LinkedIn.
Prior to his election as president, Allchorne chaired FOIL’s motor sector focus team and was the organisation’s vice president. He has more than 20 years of experience working with insurance clients and focused on civil justice reform, legal and regulatory issues impacting road transport, as well as the impact of the sector’s digitisation.
“I am delighted to be appointed as president of FOIL, and am looking forward to taking the lead in supporting our members and their clients in such challenging times for the sector,” said Allchorne.
The insurance industry has been affected by the current geopolitical, financial, and environmental issues such as the Ukraine invasion, the crisis in the Middle East, the cost-of-living crisis, as well as environmental, social, & governance (ESG) considerations. As an organisation, FOIL represents defendant lawyers within insurance law and the insurance sector.
“Insurance lawyers have been witness[es] to, and significantly impacted by, a series of legal, socio-political and financial challenges in 2023 - and there’s more to come in 2024,” said Allchorne.
“As president, working collaboratively with other industry stakeholders and organisations, I intend to ensure FOIL continues to provide a leading voice on issues that are affecting insurance lawyers, so they are prepared for the challenges they face in the year ahead,” he added.
Allchorne will be taking over from Nicola Critchley, a DWF Law partner. Howard Dean, a Keoghs partner, will be taking up the position of FOIL’s vice president and will be supporting Allchorne in managing all the organisation’s activities.
