Office of Legal Complaints chair Wanda Goldwag has been appointed in the same capacity at the Financial Services Consumer Panel.

Effective March 01, the appointment has been confirmed by HM Treasury and will be for an initial three-year term. Goldwag’s predecessor, Sue Lewis, served as chair for five and a half years.

The incoming chair’s remit includes ensuring that performance goals are met as well as representing the panel’s views to the board of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). The independent statutory body is tasked with being the voice of consumers in the regulator’s policy development.

“The panel plays a significant part in ensuring the FCA meets its objectives – and particularly to secure an appropriate degree of protection for consumers – and I’m looking forward to meeting regularly with the chair and chief executive of the FCA to promote consumer interests,” noted Goldwag, who described Lewis as a “very strong consumer champion.”

While she believes the latter “will be a hard act to follow,” Goldwag is excited about the challenge of having influence on shaping the UK’s financial conduct regulation.

Commenting on the appointment, FCA chair Charles Randell stated: “I am sure that Wanda will continue the important work of the panel, and I look forward to working with her in her new role.

“I would like to thank Sue for her contribution to the work of the panel and also Mark Chidley, who stood in as interim chair for two months.”
