“I don’t know what we can do to try and get insurance for festivals.”
Those were the words of Fianna Fáil Councillor Audrey Buckley, as reported by Echolive.ie, amid a ‘scramble for cover’ by organisers of St Patrick’s Festival events due to costly insurance.
“We want to have the St Patrick’s Day Parade on March 18, but now we’re scrambling to get it out there and try and fundraise this €1,000 to have the festival,” Buckley, referring to the festival in Crosshaven and this year’s insurance quote, was cited by the report as saying.
“We do appreciate that we get funding from Cork County Council for the festival, but unfortunately it doesn’t include the insurance.”
According to the report, the proposed allocation for Crosshaven to spend on St Patrick’s Festival stands at €1,500.
Meanwhile Carrigaline, even with a bigger allocation of €5,500, is also faced with insurance troubles. “We have to crowdfund for insurance,” lamented Fine Gael Cllr Michael Murtagh.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre) was raising funds to afford public liability insurance for racing events.
