Last Friday marked a win for the four publicans who took FBD Insurance to court over their business interruption coverage. Now a host of other insurance companies are faced with the threat of Irish High Court action following FBD’s loss in Dublin.
“We have issued correspondence to 12 insurance companies on behalf of 423 companies giving them seven days’ notice to make interim payments or we will be going to the High Court for injunctive relief for our members who are initiating proceedings against them,” Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) chief executive Adrian Cummins was quoted by The Irish Times as saying after the decision favouring policyholders was handed down.

Cummins was cited as stating: “We have analysed about 600 policies and about two-thirds of those have, we believe, legitimate claims for businesses interruption.”
