In a release, Sompo International announced Thaker’s appointment as chief executive of UK commercial property & casualty insurance and of the company’s UK business legal entity. He will report to global markets CEO Julian James.
Meanwhile, part of the new insurance leadership team are Ian Keegan and Mike Reid, who will be in charge of the London Market wholesale & specialty division and UK commercial lines division, respectively. Additionally, Keegan will serve as chief underwriting officer of the UK business legal entity.
“Sompo International has a strong presence in the London Market and a growing footprint across the UK,” James noted. “With a dedicated Sompo UK leadership team, we can more seamlessly execute on our strategy and get closer to our broker partners and clients across the UK to provide solutions that are more aligned with their needs.
“We continue to simplify our structure while ensuring consistency in our underwriting appetite and risk controls across our commercial insurance businesses in global markets.”
The move, according to Sompo International, is aimed at driving future growth and expansion.
Thaker, in his profile, said: “I joined Sompo International in March 2023, and my remit is to build a retail business in the UK, which is an enormous opportunity for us. It’s thrilling to join a company full of ambition, high-quality people, and with a license to start from (almost) a blank sheet of paper.”
