Major British insurer Legal & General has appointed former
Aviva executive Toby Strauss as an independent non-executive director of the company.
Strauss will join the Legal & General group board on January 1, 2017 and will become a member of the nominations, audit and risk committees.
“Legal & General is a fantastic company committed to supporting investment in UK infrastructure and the savings, insurance and retirement needs of their customers. I look forward to joining the board,” Strauss said.
Strauss brings extensive insurance experience to Legal & General following an executive career in financial services in the UK. Strauss is currently a trustee of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Most recently, he served as group director of insurance at Lloyds Banking Group and as chief executive of Aviva’s UK life business.
“I am delighted that Toby is joining us,” said Legal & General interim chairman Rudy Markham. “His many years of experience in the UK insurance sector further supplements the strength and balance of skills and experience of the Board. I look forward to working with him.”
Legal & General also announced that Lesley Knox has assumed chairmanship of the group’s remuneration committee while Philip Broadley has started to head the audit committee.
