James Medlicott will step into the role of UK casualty director at Ecclesiastical Insurance in March 2025, succeeding Tom Taylor, who has been promoted to group head of underwriting.

Medlicott brings extensive experience to the position, having served as director for liability underwriting at HDI Global. His career spans over 20 years in the UK liability market, including nearly two decades in senior liability underwriting roles at Aviva.

Speaking about his appointment, Medlicott highlighted Ecclesiastical’s focus on growth and its charitable mission.

" I look forward to working with the talented team to help drive Ecclesiastical’s growth ambitions forward and deliver an exceptional proposition to clients and brokers,” he said.

Medlicott’s arrival aligns with Ecclesiastical’s broader strategy to expand its casualty portfolio and double its operations to support its charitable initiatives. The company, part of the Benefact Group, recently entered the leisure and office professions sectors and continues to explore new opportunities for growth.

Ecclesiastical UK underwriting director Marc Lewis welcomed the appointment and emphasised its significance to the company’s ambitions.

“James brings a wealth of experience in the UK liability market and is joining us at a pivotal time. His appointment will support us in achieving our ambitious plans to grow our casualty portfolio over the next few years,” said Lewis.
