Ecclesiastical Insurance has announced the appointment of Dave Carey (pictured above) as the new managing director of its intermediary business, effective from February 2025.

Carey will succeed Adrian Saunders, who retired earlier this year after nearly 10 years leading the intermediary division. He joins Ecclesiastical from Allianz, where he had served as managing director of mid corporate UK for the past 18 months.

His career spans over two decades, including key roles at Zurich, where he was responsible for UK commercial tegions, and at Aviva, where he led the mid-market and speciality lines business before moving to Allianz in early 2023.

The appointment comes as Ecclesiastical highlighted its ambitious growth targets, aiming to double its business size in the coming years.

The specialist insurer also said that it is focused on expanding its presence in both existing sectors and new niches, supported by significant investments in new products and propositions to enhance its capabilities.

Richard Coleman, managing director of Ecclesiastical Insurance, highlighted the importance of Carey’s appointment, stating that his extensive experience and proven track record are critical to achieving the company’s growth objectives.

“I know Dave is as motivated as we are by our mission to double our contribution to good causes,” Coleman said.

Carey expressed enthusiasm about joining Ecclesiastical, citing the insurer’s growth ambitions and its mission to support good causes as key factors in his decision.

Back in July, Ecclesiastical also announced the appointment of Lara Bealing as marketing director for its UK operations.

With 30 years in insurance and financial services, Bealing brings extensive expertise to Ecclesiastical. Her career has spanned roles in data, digital, customer experience, proposition, brand, and marketing at major firms like Aviva, Friends Life UK, and AXA.
