Insurance firm Direct Line is investigating claims that an employee deliberately soaked homeless people with water outside one of its buildings in Leeds.

A Facebook post said that the employee poured water on the pavement towards the sleeping men.  The poster told BBC that the act appeared to have been done with the intention of waking them.

Onlookers said that the person had been attempting to wash away urine from a doorway, the Yorkshire Evening Post reported.

Direct Line said that it has apologised to the men and is investigating the incident.

“However, our primary concern is for their wellbeing and we have replaced the possessions that may have got wet, and provided them with additional warm clothing and food,” the insurer commented.
The poster said the action was “inhuman” and “lacked common sense and humanity.”

“It wouldn’t have taken a lot to throw the water elsewhere.”

He added he was “glad Direct Line have responded in such a way,” describing it as “really positive,” BBC reported.
