Danish insurer Gefion Insurance A/S has been declared bankrupt by Denmark’s Maritime and Commercial High Court.
“The curators of the bankruptcy estate, attorney-at-law Boris Frederiksen and attorney-at-law Søren Aamann Jensen, will contact all policyholders in Gefion to inform and guide them on how to act,” said the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (DFSA), which has also opened an enquiries hotline at +45 41933500.
Additionally, curators of the bankruptcy estate can be reached at [email protected].
Meanwhile, in the UK, the Financial Conduct Authority noted: “Although there are no remaining live policies in the UK, claims may still be made against Gefion policies, and a number of previously submitted claims currently remain unsettled.”
In fact, according to the UK’s Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), Gefion is no longer paying claims and is now declared failed or in default by FSCS. The latter said it is working closely with the liquidator and the DFSA to understand the impact of Gefion’s bankruptcy.
FSCS noted: “The firm sold a range of motor insurance products in the UK through a network of managing general agents made up of Bollington, Cogent Insurance Services, J&M Insurance (CUA-Group), Prestige Underwriting, Pukka Insurance, Tansar, and Staveley Head (One Sure Insurance Ltd).”
Policies offered included private motor insurance, taxi insurance, fleet insurance, and courier insurance. It was in June 2020 when the DFSA withdrew Gefion’s license as an insurer. The company entered into liquidation last July before finally being declared bankrupt on June 07, 2021.
