Clear Group (Clear) has announced its largest retail broker acquisition to date with the purchase of A-One Insurance Group (A-One).
According to a news release, the deal, bringing together two prominent players in the UK insurance market, will see Clear integrate A-One’s network of seven offices and more than 150 employees into its operations. A-One, which controls premiums exceeding £50 million, ranks among the top 75 insurance brokers in the UK.
Established in 1993, A-One has built a reputation in the South of England, specialising in various insurance sectors including property, high net worth, employee benefits, and personal lines. The firm serves a diverse client base ranging from SMEs to large corporate clients.
As part of the acquisition, A-One’s managing director Ian Penfold and his leadership team will spearhead Clear’s new South West region, strengthening Clear’s regional presence. The deal also includes A-One’s network of nine appointed representatives and their teams.
“We have known and have admired the A-One team for many years so are delighted that they are now joining us on our exciting growth journey,” said Mike Edgeley (pictured), Clear Group CEO. “A-One strengthens our position as one of the largest brokers serving the South of England where we already have a strong regional presence. We look forward to welcoming our friends from A-One who I know will bring significant value and experience to our business.”
For A-One, the decision to join Clear Group was influenced by their existing collaborative relationship.
“Throughout this time, we have enjoyed a great relationship with our colleagues at Clear, often collaborating on ideas and solutions for our clients,” said Penfold. “It was an easy choice when deciding on the best home for our business. The future direction of A-One with Clear is an exciting one and we look forward to working with Mike and his team on developing their fantastic business model.”
The news release noted the acquisition underscores Clear Group’s commitment to building a robust regional broking network as part of its long-term growth strategy.
