According to a Press release issued by the CII, Hill has served as chief executive of the Legal Services Board since August 2019. He previously spent time with both the General Dental Council and the Gambling Commission, after over 20 years serving central government in a variety of areas.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Helen Phillips, chair of the CII Group Board said: “We are delighted to have been able to appoint Matthew from a field of very strong candidates. Matthew brings a vast breadth of experience from a twenty-year career in the civil service and his current position as chief executive of the Legal Services Board.”
Phillips attested that the CII Group board is convinced Hill’s leadership, combined with the energy of its members and the commitment and expertise of the organisation’s staff, will enable the group to achieve the goals and ambitions set out in the five-year Strategic Plan launched last year.
Hill said that it is a “great privilege” to have been named CEO of the CII Group and that he has been very impressed by the group’s clear intent to provide first-rate sector leadership on behalf of its membership and to deliver the highest possible professional standards.
He added: “I will do everything I can to help it achieve those goals.”
Hill takes over the CEO role from Vallance, whose departure to become CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) was stepped up at the end of last year, culminating in him leaving the organisation at the end of December 2023.
