Chubb announced that Peter Kelaher (pictured above) has been appointed division president of Continental Europe, Middle East, and North Africa.
Kelaher, currently serving as country president of Australia and New Zealand, will take on executive operating responsibility for 24 countries in the specified regions.
Kelaher joined Chubb Australia in 2007 as a senior underwriter. Before his role as country president for Australia and New Zealand, he held several senior positions in the region. Kelaher began his career as a financial lines underwriter for a P&C insurance company in Australia. He holds a bachelor's degree in Law and International Business from the University of Technology, Sydney.
Kelaher will succeed Sara Mitchell, who will be leaving Chubb.
The appointment is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be effective from September 1, 2024. Kelaher will be based in Paris and will report to David Furby, senior vice president of Chubb Group and regional president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Furby highlighted Kelaher's extensive experience, noting his more than 20 years in the industry, including over 15 years at Chubb.
“Peter has played an important role in leading our growing commercial and consumer businesses in Australia and New Zealand. I look forward to working with him to continue the development of our business throughout Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa,” Furby said.
Paul McNamee, executive vice president of Chubb Group and president of overseas general insurance, also commented on Kelaher's appointment.
“Peter is a highly effective executive who has built substantial businesses, thoughtfully driving distribution, technology and product innovation in highly competitive markets. I have every confidence in his ability to lead our teams across Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa,” McNamee said.
