Nicola Stacey (pictured above), chief underwriting officer at Chaucer, has been appointed the next president of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the professional membership body for the insurance industry with over 120,000 members in the UK and abroad.
Stacey, currently serving as the CII’s deputy president, will officially assume the role on January 1, 2025, taking over from Ian Callaghan.
As Chaucer’s CUO, Stacey is tasked with developing the group’s underwriting strategy, with a particular emphasis on portfolio expansion. Her career spans more than three decades in the re/insurance industry, including senior roles at Swiss Re and GE Insurance Solutions.
Before joining Chaucer in November 2019, Stacey led underwriting risk management for Swiss Re’s global property & casualty reinsurance.
Upon her election, she expressed appreciation to members who supported her appointment and stated her commitment to working with members and the board to advance the CII’s goals of building public trust in the insurance profession.
“I am proud to be elected the new president of the CII and would like to thank all the members who voted,” Stacey said. “I’m also really looking forward to supporting and working with the members and the board, to deliver the CII’s clear and sensible strategy that aims to build public trust in the insurance profession.”
Chaucer’s CEO, Richard Milner, also commented on Stacey’s election, noting that her colleagues at Chaucer view her appointment as a significant opportunity to share her industry expertise and leadership with the wider insurance sector.
Chaucer operates as a specialty re/insurance group, collaborating with brokers, coverholders, and clients worldwide. The firm provides services through Lloyd’s of London and other company markets.
