Chaucer has announced the appointment of Harriet Sharp as head of political violence and crisis management. Sharp succeeds Andrew Bauckham, who is leaving the company after 23 years.
Sharp has more than 13 years of industry experience, having begun her career at Amlin. She joined Chaucer in 2017. Sharp is featured regularly in Gracechurch London’s Leading Underwriter Survey, which is voted for by London market underwriters. In 2019 and 2020, she was voted the top female underwriter in the market.
Bauckham joined Chaucer in 1998 and established the company’s global civil unrest and terrorism facultative and treaty portfolio in 2006. He has played an integral role in creating one of the market’s strongest political violence and crisis management teams, Chaucer said.
“I would like to thank Andy for his tremendous contribution to Chaucer over the last 23 years,” said John Fowle, CEO of Chaucer. “Andy has helped create one of the strongest political violence and crisis management teams in the market, with global reach through our offices. It will come as no surprise to practitioners in the class that Harriet Sharp will assume the role of head of political violence and crisis management as Andy moves on. Harriet is a highly respected leader and does a magnificent job at Chaucer, and I couldn’t be happier that she has taken on the leadership of the team.”
“Talent identification, development and internal promotion have always been key priorities at Chaucer, and so I am delighted that Harriet will assume the leadership of the team,” said Nicola Stacey, chief underwriting officer at Chaucer. “Harriet has played an integral role in the continued development of our political violence and crisis management business since joining Chaucer in 2017. I have great confidence in the ability of Harriet and the team to take our political violence and crisis management book to the next level.”
