A Yorkshire charity dedicated to providing essential supplies and services to communities in North Kirklees has received a £10,000 donation through the support of two insurance firms.
The donation received by Loving Hands Outreach came from the efforts of Bev Clark, who works for Bradford-based brokerage TL Dallas and has been actively supporting the charity during the pandemic.
In a news release, Clark recounted how she sought to do more for the charity by leveraging her company’s long-standing relationship with Aviva.
“Every year [Aviva] runs the ‘Broker Community Fund Awards,’ where insurance brokers from across the UK can apply for part of the fund, which could be anything from £500 to £20,000 in support of their chosen charity,” Clark said. “I knew what that amount of money would mean to Loving Hands Outreach Team, so I entered the charity and was really pleased when our nomination was shortlisted.”
TL Dallas was among the 40 brokers that secured a share of Aviva’s £300,000 grant, winning £10,000 for the Loving Hands Outreach.
“When we found out the charity had been chosen as one of the many winners at an awards ceremony this month, and were to receive £10,000, we were absolutely thrilled,” Clark added. “The money will ensure that the amazing impact the charity has on the Kirklees community can go even further.”
Loving Hands Outreach was established during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic and officially became a registered charity in June 2021. Each week, its team delivers 30 to 35 parcels containing fresh and packaged food, household products, and nappies to the homes of Kirklees community members.
The charity is focused on delivering on supplying fresh fruits and vegetables to families, in addition to running cookery classes. It also connects families with mental health charities, baby banks, and other food banks to provide further assistance within their local area.
According to Louisa Weir, who is part of the Loving Hands Outreach team, the funds from Aviva will be used to set up more cookery classes, as well as a community garden and grow-your-own-at-home project where families will be supplied with their own growbags and tools to use at home.
“We are so grateful to Aviva and Bev at TL Dallas for helping us get the funding,” Weir said.
