Catalina Holdings (Bermuda) Ltd, which recently completed a US$2 billion (around £1.6 billion) portfolio transfer of UK employers’ liability policies from Zurich Insurance Plc, has appointed a chief executive for Catalina UK.
Taking on the post in January 2020 is Armour Group Ltd executive vice president Steve Ryland, whose more than three decades of insurance and reinsurance experience includes time spent at Swiss Re’s former service entity PRO Insurance Solutions Ltd in his capacity as executive director.
Subject to regulatory approval, the appointment will see Ryland at the helm of Catalina’s British operations, where he will not only drive operational efficiencies but also identify and execute on market consolidation opportunities.
The incoming CEO’s remit will also span the integration of the group’s UK employers’ liability books of business as well as leveraging the global platform of the legacy acquisition enterprise.
Headquartered in Bermuda, Catalina acquires and manages non-life insurance and reinsurance companies and portfolios in run-off. Aside from the UK, it also has offices in the US, Ireland, and Switzerland.
