Yesterday we told you about
fears that a body discovered in the River Bann was that of missing insurance professional John Thompson – and now his death has been confirmed.
Thompson, from Ballyclare, who worked for Hughes Insurance, disappeared on Saturday and now his body has been recovered after a search operation.
According to Newtown Abbey Today, a spokesman for PSNI said: “Police can confirm that the body recovered from the River Bann was that of 56-year-old John Thompson. Mr Thompson had been reported missing on Saturday, August 20.”
Following his death, there has been an outpour of tributes on social media. The publication included a tribute from former Northern Ireland goalkeeper Tommy Wright who wrote: “Sorry to hear of sad news for Thompson family. I have great memories growing up with John. In particular playing cricket in his yard, at the High School and in The Windies cricket team. Thoughts and prayers with all the family at this very sad time xx.”
Thompson was praised as an entertainer as well as for his work in insurance. During his spare time he enjoyed playing at local retirement homes and was previously a member of the Ballyclare Victoria Flute Band.
