BMS Group, the independent specialist insurance and reinsurance broker, has announced the launch of the second edition of its early careers apprenticeship programme in London.
Established in 2023, the programme is designed to develop a pipeline of skilled account handlers and support colleagues, aligned with BMS’ growth strategy for the next five years.
The programme has been supported by partnerships with organisations such as Davies Group, Equity, East London Business Alliance, and the London Market Group’s ‘London Insurance Life’ campaign. These collaborations have allowed BMS to tap into a broader and more diverse talent pool.
In its inaugural year, the programme welcomed seven school and college leavers. For 2024, BMS said that it has expanded the programme to include nine participants, offering them a comprehensive introduction to the insurance sector and the opportunity to rotate through different teams and departments.
Ali Trauttmansdorff, group chief people officer, emphasised the importance of the initiative, describing it as a way to engage young people.
“We are very proud of our apprenticeship programme and see it as an essential way to get young people - especially those without personal connections to the industry - interested in careers in insurance,” Trauttmansdorff said.
Louisa Erwin, group head of diversity, equity and inclusion, highlighted the significance of the programme in broadening access to the industry.
“I am delighted to see our apprenticeship programme return after a hugely successful debut year. It’s no secret that our industry has a way to go to become truly representative of the communities we serve, and it’s initiatives like this, delivered in conjunction with our incredible partners, which can help open up insurance to all,” she said.
Last month, the re/insurance specialist also announced the appointment of Richard Dudley as group chief broking officer.
