Independent re/insurance broker BMS has announced the appointment of three senior energy industry specialists – Charlotte Marsh, Jack Palmer, and Toby Hanington – to its energy division.

The appointments follow the earlier addition of Rob Neighbour to the team, which continues to grow rapidly. All the new hires will be based in London.

Charlotte Marsh has joined as divisional director at BMS Energy. She previously worked as an associate director at Price Forbes and has ten years of experience in the insurance industry. Beginning her career as a marine hull broker in 2013, Marsh transitioned to onshore energy and power generation in 2016.

Toby Hanington also joins as divisional director, upstream. Hanington entered the energy liability market in 2014 as a broker at JLT, focusing on various aspects of the oil and gas sector. Before joining BMS, he was with Howden, designing and placing programmes for a diverse range of clients, including service contractors, integrated majors, and exploration and production companies worldwide.

Jack Palmer, appointed as divisional director, upstream, brings a decade of experience from his time as a broker in the upstream energy team at Howden. Palmer has worked extensively across the United States, Africa, and Latin America, handling accounts for clients ranging from small operators to state-run oil and gas companies.

Both Palmer and Hanington will report to Alex Collier, director of energy, alongside Rob Neighbour, who joined earlier this year.

Ian Gormley, UK CEO of BMS Group, said the additions enhance BMS’s capacity in the energy sector.

“With the addition of these talented individuals, we are strengthening our position in the energy space,” Gormley said. “They bring with them established market relationships and proven collective expertise, which will enable BMS Energy to grow at the pace that clients require without compromising on the quality of service. We pride ourselves on providing our clients with dynamic solutions to suit all needs, and the team led by James is proof of this. We will now be able to sustain, and improve, our offerings to keep up the momentum.”

James Chicken, managing director of energy lines at BMS, highlighted the evolving nature of client needs in the energy sector.

“The range of skills that our new additions bring to the team will allow us to keep up with the vast array of technology developments and operational changes that energy companies are currently exposed to. The specialised streams are complimentary and able to work in tandem to address complex, multifaceted risks. We are looking forward to seeing what the division can accomplish in the future, and we will continue to grow the team to match demand,” Chicken said.
