The board of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has renewed Lord David Hunt of Wirral’s tenure as chairman of the industry body for a second three-year term.
Lord Hunt first took the position in January 2014 after becoming BIBA’s first non-executive director. He is also the co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Insurance and Financial Services and a former president of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
“I am delighted that we have been able to secure David’s services for a further three years,” BIBA chief executive Steve White said.
“His breadth of knowledge and experience has been invaluable to BIBA since 2014 and will be vital as the country and sector goes through a period of enormous change,” White added.
According to BIBA, Lord Hunt has encouraged the association’s lobbying activity to support and promote the interests of insurance brokers and their customers.
“Brokers arrange over half of all general insurance business, over a third of personal lines and almost 80% of commercial lines insurance, so I am genuinely honoured and delighted to take up the opportunity to continue on this journey alongside the excellent BIBA team,” Hunt said.
Hunt said the speed of activity at BIBA is “constantly increasing”. He also warned that the industry body will face more challenges following recent events such as the Brexit vote.
“I have no doubt we shall rise to those challenges and, working together, make further progress in protecting and advancing the interests of insurance brokers and the customers they serve so well,” he said.
