Tom Downey (pictured right), chief executive of Pen Underwriting UK, is replacing Manchester Underwriting Management founder Charles Manchester on one of BIBA’s (British Insurance Brokers’ Association) advisory boards.
The announcement was made by BIBA CEO Graeme Trudgill (pictured left), who revealed Manchester’s retirement.
“Really pleased to advise that Pen Underwriting CEO Tom Downey, will be taking the seat of Charles Manchester, who is retiring, on our network & managing general agents’ advisory board,” Trudgill wrote in a LinkedIn post.
“Pen (as Manchester Underwriting Management) is also one of BIBA’s accredited providers for members’ own professional indemnity insurance, with Richard Webb, Nick Wright, and CGPA’s Eric Evian doing so much to support our members.”
The BIBA chief added: “I’m always appreciative of the top people in our sector taking the time to be a guiding light for their trade body and its members.”
Aside from the main BIBA board and the networks & MGA advisory board, the association also has an insurance brokers’ standards committee as well as respective advisory boards for small and medium-sized enterprises, large brokers, international & wholesale brokers, and regional chairs.
In a previous interview with Insurance Business, Downey pointed to how, at Pen, his camp always looked at further innovations and investments in people and products.
“If things aren’t working, change them,” he declared. “I can’t be the arbitrator of change; you have to make it happen when and where you can. And that’s where my passion stems from.
“I do have a real passion for this business, but I get that energy from the people in this business. It’s their drive, it’s their desire, it’s their teamwork that’s constantly pushing us forward. It’s that which gives me energy, and my job is to try and give some of that back.”
