There is a new face at the top of the UK & Ireland arm of international specialty insurance firm Beazley.

The company has named Sam Franks (pictured) as its country manager for the region, with the move taking effect immediately. Franks, who will be situated in Birmingham, is set to develop the regional business outside its Lloyd’s operations. He is currently the head of partner engagement for the region within the distribution team – a role he is set to retain.

In a release announcing Franks’ appointment, the insurer noted his “considerable experience”, stressing that he would bring extensive insights from his time leading the company’s distribution operations for regional brokers. It was noted that he had played a key role in boosting engagement strategies, while also building an extensive network of both clients and broker partners.

Building foundations with brokers

Franks, who has past experience at Hiscox as its head of broker operations in the UK, noted he was “proud” of the company’s foundations within the broking community and that he saw this as a real opportunity to grow together. “Beazley has a fantastic team in place and I look forward to working with them as we continue to provide expert advice and specialty solutions to an exciting market,” he said.

Meanwhile, European general manager Fred Kleiterp stressed that the introduction of a country manager position was part of the company’s commitment to its European offering.

“Sam will be an integral point of contact, developing and enhancing our relationships with our regional partners, regulators, and clients, while ensuring our colleagues are supported in fostering their own strategic relationships,” he said. “His already proven ability to lead a team and enable business development, combined with his regional expertise, makes him the ideal person to spearhead this role in aid of growing our presence in Europe.”
