Beazley has appointed Simon Wilson (pictured) as its new head of open market – UK/RoW.
Wilson will join Beazley in mid-January and will be based out of the company’s London headquarters. As the head of open market, he will direct and manage the open market – UK/RoW teams underwriting open market accounts with the property team and offer expert insight on market issues. He is an experienced underwriter with expertise in primary and excess property D&F products.
Prior to joining Beazley, Wilson was most recently associated with Hiscox. At Hiscox, he underwrote a large primary and excess portfolio which encompassed worldwide territories such as property, mining, power generation, and downstream energy. Before that, Wilson was a senior technical underwriter – property direct and facultative at CNA Hardy, where he managed a global portfolio which comprised primary and excess of loss business as a lead market within Lloyd’s.
“Simon is an experienced Lloyd’s-based underwriter with deep expertise and technical knowledge in both primary and excess property D&F products. His appointment demonstrates our continued investment in the open market space, and we are looking forward to working with him to find progressive solutions to increasingly complex market demands,” said Beazley group head of property Richard Montminy.
“Beazley is a leader in commercial property business insurance in the Lloyd’s market, so I am naturally delighted to be taking up the reins early next year. This has been challenging time for the insurance industry as a whole, which has had to work hard to adapt to recent and seismic changes felt across the globe,” commented Wilson on his appointment. “Beazley has continued to innovate throughout this time, enabling its underwriters to make smarter decisions throughout, and provide meaningful solutions to their clients. I am looking forward to joining such a dynamic and highly skilled team in the new year.”
